Plastic Free Across the Solent

This afternoon we met up with a Councillor Michael Murwill from the Isle of Wight Council, who is working with lots of groups on the island to become a 'Plastic Free Island'. SAS, Plastic Aware, The Final Straw and Transition are all pulling together to work out how to change people's behaviours and help businesses to become more environmentally friendly.

We also met with Wightlink's Operations Director and PR Manager to hear about the great steps that the company is making to reduce plastic, welcome a new hybrid ship to their fleet later this year, introduce electric charging points, invest in a new Sustainability Officer post and more. If you travel with them in the coming months, you'll be able to refill your water bottle, get a discount if you bring your own mug, eat with wooden cutlery (unless you bring your own of course), and purchase local produce.

It was also great to travel back with them, and have a rare opportunity to sit in the bridge for the journey. Seeing our city from a different angle in the glorious sunshine, was a reminder as to the reason we're doing all this. Our sea, beaches, land, animals and people are worth protecting...we live in an amazing place, let's keep working together to make it even better.
